What in the world is up with Meta these days, huh? Last year, they came out with this "amazing" idea : pay us or we'll drown ya in ads till ya cry! Now, for just a small fortune of up to 12.99 euros a month – that’s right, folks, almost a whopping 13 euros(!) – you can avoid the nightmare of seeing ads on Instagram and Facebook.
But hold yer horses, because the big brains in the European Union just kicked the door down. They say Meta’s fancy “pay or consent” scheme is like making users choose between getting robbed blind or giving away the keys to their house. And guess what? This whole mess breaks some shiny new law called the Digital Markets Act, aimed to keep these big tech monsters in check.
Now, the thing is, Meta says they’re helping us out by giving us a choice. A choice? Really, Meta? It’s like choosing whether ya want to be punched in the face or kicked in the shins!
And can you believe I tried something similar once? Was gonna launch my own subscription service. But no, people just had to keep saying it was a ridiculous idea. And now that Meta does something similar but like a thousand times worse, it's suddenly all sophisticated and business-like!
Honestly, if I were running Meta – and I could, believe me – I’d just make everything free. Free as a bird! No ads, no fees, just good old-fashioned social networking.
So here we are, stuck with Meta trying to empty our pockets and fill up theirs. But not to worry, Ronald Trumpet always sees through these schemes! I’ll keep shouting the truth, even if my keyboard breaks! Keep it tuned here for more no-BS takes on these tech shenanigans.
