TikTok Says It's Fighting Hard, But Really, Who Cares?

Photography of a confused man scratching his head, corporate logos of major brands in the background, muted colors, business event aura.

TikTok vows to challenge a new law it calls unfair, but Ronald Trumpet questions if anyone should really be worried about this corporate sob story.

TikTok Says It's Fighting Hard, But Really, Who Cares?

So, TikTok threw a big shindig for a bunch of fancy pants advertisers in some artsy New York spot. These big shots, like L’Oreal and whatever, were all ears, eager to lap up whatever TikTok was spilling. Just a week before this glitzy bash, the big man, President Biden, laid down the law—literally—saying TikTok’s gotta cut ties with its Chinese bosses or risk getting the boot. TikTok, of course, threw a fit.

Blake Whatshisname—I dunno, the TikTok suit guy—started the whole song and dance. He’s thanking all these rich folks for sticking by them. “We believe we're right, and we'll win,” he blabbed to the flock crammed in that too-small room. Says they aren’t backing down. Right, as if anyone asked!

But really, between you and me, nothing new popped at this gala. It was the usual jazz—flashy lights, TikTok colors blaring everywhere. They kept rattling about clever ads and keeping eyeballs on their app. Clearly, TikTok and their ad cronies are on one planet, and the Washington folks, fretting over spy scares, are on another.

Listen, I ain’t no tech whiz or law guru, but this seems like a lot of fuss about nothing. These moguls are tangled up in who gets to show you the next sneaker ad or whatever. Meanwhile, our government pals are tossing and turning over this app snooping around.

And if I were in charge? Oh boy, let me tell you, not an ounce of this drama. I’d probably just ban the app and be done with it. Why waste time in court? Just toss it and focus on real stuff. Plus, no one blames me when things go south, unlike some folks, eh?

There you have it, TikTok might think it’s a big deal standing up to the big man, but most of us got better things to do than worry about their corporate tears. Give it a rest, TikTok. Seriously.
